Hey Jonny, I just found tracks.org.nz, and your blog!!! Awesome. Do you have any insight into what it is that people are scared about with Obamas proposed welfare state initiatives. I don’t think its been well enough covered in the NZ media, we just seem to be focusing on the extremeness of it, without any explanation for why these people are nutting off. Is there something we don’t know? Jeff

It’s unbelievably complicated but seems to be all big companies that get in the pockets of government here. Generally nothing illegal it’s just how the system works. So it ends up that things like health care are wildly expensive especially if you don’t have medical insurance, which is wildly expensive too. So about 55 million people have no insurance so can’t even afford to go to the doctor. So if they have a cold or something they turn up at A&E, the most expensive health provider there is. So the govt has to help out and the big companies that had the most lobby power ($) have positioned themselves to get the contracts. Anyway it’s all too much to follow so I quite often keep up with US politics from the radio NZ podcasts, Jack Hit and friends!

I found your blog looking for a picture of a turkey. Although I’m not too politically active, I fell in love with this photo. It was the perfect quote on the perfect day and lifted my spirits. Great photography.

Not sure how you got from a turkey to this but good work! Photo isn’t mine (see link to “Source”) but it did it for me too.
